Changing Stories is an educational for-impact organization dedicated to helping struggling students in Nepal gain the foundational literacy and numeracy skills needed to succeed in school and in life.

Changing Stories vision is a Nepal where every kid completes an education.

We achieve our vision by running accelerated learning courses (ALCs) for struggling public school students in Nepal. Through a literacy and numeracy assessment we select and enrol the 15 lowest-performing students in grades 3-5 at each project school. An ALC consists of 90 lessons, each 2 hours long. Lessons take place in a classroom at our project schools either before or after school hours. The aim is to give students, who have fallen far behind their classmates, the foundational literacy and numeracy skills they need to succeed in school and in life.

Based on the belief that change comes from a generation of Nepalese youth who want to build a better Nepal, we select and hire ambitious local youth to serve as “fellows”, who teach and lead the ALCs. Local youth selected for the fellowship programme complete a 10-day long pre-service training, receive continuous guidance and support and take part in regular training and workshops throughout their fellowship.

Over the last 2.5 years we have completed a total of 25 courses and evidenced their effectiveness at helping struggling students learn how to read and do math through extensive impact evaluation studies. Under the guidance of One Life Foundation we now aim to scale our ALCs and help change the stories of even more struggling students across public schools in Nepal.
