Carcel was a Danish fashion label That existed from 2016-2021. Carcel’s mission was to create socially responsible and environmentally friendly quality clothes based on Scandinavian design principles, produced responsibly by incarcerated women.
One LIfe foundation supported Carcel with a loan of dkk 100.000. Below is a video from carcel’s kickstarter campaign and a description of the mission.
Carcel makes exclusive clothing in 100% natural materials, manufactured by women in prison in some of the world’s poorest countries. Our first production is set up in Peru in a women’s prison in Cuzco. The second produktion is set up in a prison outside of chaing mai in thailand.
The majority of these women are incarcerated due to non-violent crimes such as drug trafficking. By providing these women with a job, they will be able to pay for basic living costs, send their children to school and save up for a crime-free beginning. Ultimately we hope to break the spiral of poverty. We wish to expand the project and help more women across the globe.
With a loan of 100.000 dkk from One Life Foundation, Carcel has been able to excel the process of buying new machinery for the women in Cuzco and hereby start the process of investing in a whole new type of production facility that can give fair wages and new skills to women in prison there.
